The Civic Museum in the Bourbon Prison

The Bourbon Prison was designed by Natale Bonaiuto, in the early 18th century. Since 1843 it has hosted the Civic Museum, that was rebuilt in 1914, by one of the greatest mayors of the town, Don Luigi Sturzo.
The collections are divided into several sections: the archaeological section, the Art Gallery, the historical collection of the Museum, the collection of Privileges, which have been granted to the town since the Norman period. The Museums are involved in the dissemination, teaching and research in partnership with many organizations, such as Universities, Institutes of Advanced Italian and foreign studies. They also organize many exhibitions.

Accessibility
At the entrance, there is one step (5cm x 60cm). The first and the second floors are divided into two sections, both served by lift and by some ramps to facilitate the visit. The museum has one accessible toilet at the ground floor. There is no private parking with reserved seats, yet there is a parking space for disabled people near Piazza Umberto I (80mt away). You can stop at the entrance of the Museum to allow visitors in wheelchair to get off or on vehicles.
