Church Of Santa Maria Della Stella

The Church is famous for the cult of Maria SS. Della Stella and impressively stands on top of a staircase, flanked by an imposing bell tower. Its construction began in 1722, on the ruins of the previous church destroyed by the earthquake. It was ended in 1741. Its facade, dating back to the late Baroque period, is rich of carvings and has a portal framed by twisted columns. Inside, there are precious masterpieces, including a wooden and hemp statue, dating from the seventeenth century and featuring the Madonna della Stella. The statue became famous for its miracles and today the Madonna Maria SS. della Stella is the patron of the city of Militello. The church hosts the amazing terracotta altarpiece by the sculptor Andrea della Robbia, featuring the birth of Jesus (1487).

Accessibility
The main entrance has obstacles that do not allow the access of people with motor disability. It is present an alternative entrance with ramp that is not visible from the front of the church and for this reason, it is advisable to ask for more information once arrived on site. The size of the Church allows for an accessible tour.
