Giarre has an interesting historical center along Via Callipoli and around the square of the magnificent Duomo. This is named after Saint Isidoro Agricola and was built from 1794: it houses remarkable paintings. The name of Giarre comes from “jars” which kept the tithes intended to the bishop of Catania, the Baron of Màscali.
