Massimo Bellini Theatre

The Theatre of Catania is dedicated to the famous composer Vincenzo Bellini and was designed by the architect Carlo Sada from Milano. It opened in 1890 and hosted the most important artists of the twentieth century. The facade of the theater has a Neo-Baroque style; inside the space is very elegant, decorated with marble and stucco. The large room is lavishly decorated and features four orders of stages. The ceiling is frescoed by Ernesto Bellanti, with allegorical scenes depicting the greatest works by Bellini. The curtain has a great historical importance since it shows the victory of Catania on the Libyans and was made by Giuseppe Sciuti.
