Palazzolo Acreide

After the earthquake of 1693, the town was rebuilt into two separate parts: the medieval district, rebuilt on the original structure, and the 16th and 17th century district around the main avenue.
It’s rich in monuments and places of interest, including: Church of St. Sebastian; Church of St. Paul; the ancient Church of the Assumption and the annexed Convent of the Minor Believers, that were completely destroyed by the 1693 earthquake and rebuilt in another site closer to the town.
The Sicilian cultural tradition can be observed in the House Museum “Antonio Uccello”, where there is a valuable collection of rural life objects: tools used for agriculture and breeding, furniture, daily-use potteries, traditional puppets and carts made by local artisans.
In addition to the Antiquarium and the Museum “Antonino Uccello,” there are the Telematic Museum, the Art Gallery and the Municipal Gallery of Contemporary Art “Palazzolo Contemporanea”.
