Ragusa

Following the 1693 earthquake, the town was rebuilt with two centers: Ibla and Ragusa; the latter was founded on the Patro hill from the beginning.
Must-see in Ragusa: the beautiful Cathedral, built in stages between 1706 and 1760; the Church of St. George (the Dome) in Piazza del Duomo, repaired with Piazza Maggiore by Rosario Gagliardi in a single urban system, together with the church of St. Joseph; Palazzo Battaglia, attributed to Gagliardi for the façade and architectural details; the Church of Santa Maria delle Scale, rebuilt after 1693; the remains of the Church of San Giorgio Vecchio, with the beautiful façade and the Gothic portal; Palazzo Cosentini with its peculiar corbels with grotesque images and exuberant capitals; others are Palace Bertini, La Rocca, Sortino Trono, Zacco, which is remarkable for the corbel of the balconies with grotesque figures and masks; The Hyblean Garden, at the eastern edge of the town, encloses three churches.
