Regional Museum Of Ragusa

The Museum is located close to Via Roma, near the northern part of the New Bridge (Pennavaria). The museum is located on the first floor of the Palace Mediterraneo, built in the ‘50s in the area of development of ​​the town. The first settlement of the museum was the Antiquarium, between 1955 and 1960. In the late ’60s, the museum had its current arrangement, following a complete renovation.
The museum shows the archeology and the ancient history of the Ragusa area, from the Neolithic until late antiquity.
The first Antiquarium of Ragusa collected the remains found during the first campaigns of excavations held in the Greek necropolis of Rito (Ragusa) and in the Hellenistic area of ​​Scornavacche (Chiaramonte Gulfi). Later, after the enlargement of the ‘70s, the museum collected the remains found during the excavations in the town of Camarina, in the Sicilian necropolis of Castiglione and in the late-antique settlement of Caucana. The museum also exhibits artworks coming from collections of the early years of the 20th century of the territory of Ragusa, purchased by the Sicilian government, including the collections Melfi of Chiaramonte, Pacetto, La Rocca and Pace. 
The museum is open all year from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and admission is free.
INFO: At the entrance of the museum there are barriers that do not allow the entry of people with mobility problems. There is a reception area with counter and equipment (ex. stands) at a height suitable to visitors in wheelchairs.
