The Cathedral Church of Cefalù

The building of the Cathedral begun from the will of Roger II in 1131 and the work continued very slowly after his death. It is one of the finest examples of Norman art: the façade has two huge bell-towers and the interior is divided into three naves, with seven arches and marble columns. The Islamic influence is evident from the painted wooden ceiling, while the Byzantine tradition is testified by the rich mosaics depicting the Christ Pancreator inside the apse.
