Thermal Baths Of Indirizzo

It is one of the many thermal baths in Catania and maybe the one that has survived in better condition. It is partially built-in with the Carmelite convent of Santa Maria dell’Indirizzo, from which it takes the name.
The building is located at Piazza Curro and it was probably intended for public use. Today ten rooms closed by the original ceilings can be visited and there are still the remains of furnaces used to heat the rooms, the channels for the flow of water and the passages for air circulation. Considering the rooms structure, maybe there was a program consisting in the passage from cold water to hot water. Thermal baths were divided into three main areas: the frigidarium, the cold bath, the calidarium, the hot bath, and the tepidarium, the intermediate zone.
